Can't Sleep, Babies Will (not) Eat Me
Sam typing here.
After a not-quite comedy of errors, Fitz-Hume and Millbarge were delivered via C-Section. Beautiful, healthy girls, which makes us wonder if they are really ours. We're not going to tell the IVF clinic they may have made a mistake.
Akeeyu's high points of the recent past:
- Being casually told by a nurse, "Well, and there was some concern during the operation because you started to bleed out..."
- It appears her body forgot to order milk; expecting some in the next few days.
- She has been reduced to monosyllabic grunts while the hospital-grade breast pump is on. "My...brains...are...being...sucked...out..."
Updates to come once we start sleeping again. That sounds awfully far in the future. I'm sure she'll post again before then.
Congrats on beautiful baby girls!

Wonderful news. Congratulations from a long time lurker in Australia. I've been worrying about you (all). Akeeyu with two girls! It's so right. She'll bring them up to be strong women like herself.

Send Akeeyu my best! (I did ask her to wait until after I had my baby, but I'll forgive her...)

Congratulations from all the way over here in Australia. I've been popping in every day looking for news on the birth, so you've made my day. I got so excited my kids came running from the other end of the house!
I'm so happy for you all.
I hate to brag but I did say right form the start of this preganancy that I had a good feeling about it.
I can't stop smiling, I' just thrilled. I told you so.

YAY!!!! YAY!!!!! YAY!!!!!!
oh heavens, YAY!!!
REAL ACTUAL LIVE BABIES.
Posted by: Accidental Poet | February 17, 2008 at 11:38 PM
sorry to give assvice, but the babies work better to bring milk than even hospital grade pump. but for now it might be difficult to find comfortable position after the c-section i can guess... the few drops they get first are loaded with nutrients and superhyperantibodies, and it takes 3-4 days for the massproduction to kick in. babies who lose a little weight in first few days are said to be healthier when they grow up so if their birth weight is ok, no need to necessarily fuss to give additional milk. but certainly it's ok to give borrowed milk/formula if still need be. anyyyhow, i'm sure your lady knows all this.
sam will be now eventually overpowered by female rule in the family...

Congradulations!!! I have to agree with the other poster that I've never been so thrilled for a stranger on the other side of the world from me. I discovered your blog a month ago. Read it straight through... and then, oh no -- no babies yet! everyday I've been hoping happy thoughts for you both.
Hope you get to dance in the seattle rain far from the confines of your house/bed with your beautiful babies very soon!

WHOOPEE!! Welcome to the world, little girls! (I hope you found some, uh, new names for them - Fitz-Hume and Millbarge just don't sound like dainty newborn girly names!) :) :) :)
And, SO don't hesitate to call LLL day or night, they helped me tremendously to not freak out when my milk didn't come in right away! I agree with poster above that if they will latch, getting them on the boob will help milk come in better than the pump.
It's ALL GOOD, though! They're HERE!!!!!

Sam, Akeeyu,
I am overflowing with happiness at this best of news. You now have three daughters. What an epic journey, and now what an amazing beginning.
Sitting here misty-eyed at 8.20am in Scotland, profoundly moved for you.
I don't care if you don't post for a month, I'm just so happy knowing about the creation of your new family of five.
Much love to you all.

De-lurking all the way from Singapore. Been following your blog for the past 2 years and I think Akeeyu will be the BEST mom ever for the twins. You are one lucky chap Sam, to be adored by 4 females in the Buttmansion. Wait a minute, your cat is a she too, right? Congrats. Really happy for the both of you... from the bottom of my heart.
